What is T+1 Settlement?

Settlement is the process of finalising payment transactions, where funds are moved to the merchant’s account.  Each payment transactions goes through several steps, including:

  1. Authorization – verifies the transaction.
  2. Clearing – reconciles details between banks
  3. Settlement – actual transfer of funds

Settlement cycles can vary. In the case of a T+1 settlement cycle, this means all transactions/payments are settled one business day after the transaction date.
